A passenger in a car on Sunken Meadow State Parkway was killed Tuesday when the vehicle went off the road in Commack and struck several trees in the center median, State Police said.

Maria Garcia, 37, of Brentwood, was taken to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, where she died of her injuries, police said.

The driver of the 2007 Honda Civic suffered no apparent injuries, police said. Police did not identify the driver.

The car left the southbound lanes of the road just south of Jericho Turnpike at 2:38 a.m., police said.

The crash forced the closing of all southbound lanes between Jericho Turnpike and Veterans Memorial Highway until 7:44 a.m., according to informny.com, a website of the state Department of Transportation.
