A Mastic Beach man was seriously hurt when he drove off the road Saturday night on Sunrise Highway in Eastport and across lanes where he crashed into an SUV, police said.

Arnold Furcal, 31, was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition heading west on Sunrise Highway, just west of County Route 51, when he drove off the road and crashed into two guardrails about 8:10 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

The Expedition swerved into the eastbound lanes where Furcal then crashed into a 2005 Honda CR-V driven by Arthur Ireland, of Deer Park.

Furcal suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Ireland and his passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue.

Suffolk County detectives are still investigating the cause of the crash. Police are asking any witnesses to call the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.
