A woman in her 90s was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital as a precaution, after she was freed from her sport utility vehicle that had overturned on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays in a one-car accident Wednesday afternoon, state police said.
“She was going eastbound, and kind of veered off to the south shoulder and flipped,” said State Police Sgt. Brian Berge by telephone.
Though she was in stable condition, she was flown to the hospital as a precaution because of her age, he said.
The crash happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. at Sunrise Highway Exit 66-North Road, according to informny.com, the state Department of Transportation’s website.
All lanes were closed during the subsequent investigation. The road reopened about two hours later.
