Cops seek driver of crash on Sunrise Highway
Suffolk detectives said they are searching for the driver of an unidentified vehicle that seriously injured a 53-year-old man in Bohemia on Tuesday morning.
The victim, Eric Cohen, 53, of Port Jefferson Station, who is being treated at Bay Shore’s Southside Hospital, had just gotten out of his 2015 Ford F350 around 4:30 a.m., when he was struck by an unknown vehicle, the police said. The accident happened on the right shoulder of westbound Sunrise Highway, just west of the Oakdale-Bohemia overpass, according the police statement.
Anyone with information about the crash should call 631-854-8552.
The accident forced the closing of westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway in Bohemia for more than four hours Tuesday morning, Suffolk County police said.
The lanes reopened at 10:12 a.m., according to informny.com, a website of the state Department of Transportation. The accident occurred between exits 47 and 49, according to the DOT.
The lanes were closed about 5:30 a.m. at Lakeland Avenue, a police spokesman said. Other details were not immediately available.
