Sunrise Hwy. crash in E. Islip cleaned up
An accident that closed two westbound lanes on the Sunrise Highway in East Islip Tuesday morning has been cleared up, the state Department of Transportation said.
The agency posted an alert at 8:11 a.m. about a multiple-vehicle accident at Exit 46, Carleton Avenue. The accident was cleared up by 8:53 a.m., according to the site.
Two lanes were closed and traffic was backed up for several miles, according to the agency's cameras on the highway.
One person was taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, said a spokeswoman for the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office.
