Suspect arrested in Brentwood slaying
A 24-year-old Brentwood man has been arrested, charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a man last month outside a bar in Brentwood, police said.
Elvi Ruddy Portillo-Aguilar was arrested Monday in the shooting death of Edgar Perez-Avalos, 30, in the parking lot near Migueleno Sports Bar on Clarke Street in Brentwood on Aug. 18, Suffolk County police said.
Portillo-Aguilar was held for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Central Islip.
Police said Perez-Avalos, of Chapel Hill Drive, Brentwood, was shot once during an altercation between "approximately five men" outside the bar.
His body was discovered by responding officers at 3:50 a.m.
It was not immediately clear what led police to arrest Portillo-Aguilar. Late last month police offered a Crime Stoppers reward of up to $5,000 for any information leading to the arrest of a suspect in the case.
