A woman walking in Freeport was robbed and assaulted, Nassau police said.

Police said the woman was walking on Pine Street Friday about 8:15 p.m. when a man grabbed her pocketbook and threw her to the ground. The man then punched and kicked her, police said, and when she fought back, the man pulled out a knife, then ran away.

The suspect is described as a large, balding man, 20 to 25 years old and between 6-foot-1 and 6-foot-5. His eyebrows and nostrils are pierced, as is his left ear, police said.

The victim suffered a contusion to her head but refused medical treatment, police said.

MASSAPEQUA

Octogenarians

found after a drive

A Massapequa couple reported missing Thursday was found Friday night in good condition in Westchester, police said. John Rogan, 85, and his wife, Marian, 86, went out for a drive shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday. The couple was expected to return to their apartment in the Bristal Assisted Living Center by 9 p.m. When they didn't, the staff contacted Nassau police, who began a search.

The Rogans were spotted in Quogue early Friday, when an officer pulled over their car for crossing a double yellow line, Quogue police said. However, police had not yet received the notice that they were missing.

Nassau police said Westchester County police found the husband and wife in Eastchester Friday night. Both are reported to be in good condition.

KEW GARDENS

Woman's body

found in burning car

Police and firefighters who extinguished a burning car in the Kew Gardens section of Queens Saturday about 4:20 a.m. found a woman's body in the backseat.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Her identity was not released.

The car, a 2000 BMW, had been parked at the corner of Jamaica Avenue and 130th Street.

Police sources said the person believed to be the victim was not the registered owner of the car, which had been registered in upstate Queensbury. The city medical examiner plans to perform an autopsy Sunday, said spokeswoman Ellen Borakove.
