Suspicious packages delivered to Southampton Town Hall abruptly ended a town board work session Thursday afternoon about 12:30 p.m.

The town hall was not evacuated, but the work session was halted as fire marshals and police blocked a second floor office.

The packages were deemed not a threat, town officials said.

Three packages were delivered Thursday, Southampton Village Police Lt. Chris Mohl said, and town workers identified them as suspicious because of the packaging. Suffolk County's emergency service unit was asked to come out at about 1 p.m.

Mohl said the area was secured but the building left open. He declined to say how the packages were labeled, but said there was no powder or liquid in the packages. Southampton police were investigating and interviewing those who opened a package.

The town board work session was halted while Assemb. Fred Thiele (I-Sag Harbor) was giving a presentation.
