A Center Moriches woman who dumped two emaciated puppies with infected skin has been sentenced to 3 years of probation, officials said Wednesday.

Swaneka P.J. Danzler, 23, had admitted to Suffolk SPCA officers that she dumped the pit bull puppies, including one that later died, into a 6-foot-deep window well at the Riverhead Animal Hospital on Dec. 18, 2012, the Suffolk SPCA said.

Danzler pleaded guilty to one count of abandonment of a disabled animal last Wednesday, a Riverhead Justice Court official said.

The male puppy, whose skin came off when it was touched, was too weak to eat or drink, and died Christmas night, the SPCA said at the time.

Both had mange, a painful skin condition caused by mite infestations, but it is usually treatable, especially when caught early.

The surviving puppy has been adopted and is living in Greenport, the SPCA said.

SPCA investigators had said Danzler admitted the two puppies were part of her dog's litter.

Danzler could not be reached. Her attorney could not be immediately reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
