A Deer Park teenager was killed Tuesday morning in Brentwood when his Honda Civic crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a big-rig truck, Suffolk County police said.

Javon Toombs, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene after rescuers extricated him from the Civic using the Jaws of Life, police said.

Toombs had crossed over onto northbound Crooked Hill Road and hit the back tires of the truck, a Freightliner carrying sheet metal, said Det. Sgt. Tony Lavista of the police department's Third Squad detectives.

"It was a big, heavy truck," Lavista said.

The 7:50 a.m. crash closed southbound Crooked Hill at Express Drive South in Brentwood, police said.

The investigation into the circumstances of the crash is continuing, but the big-rig driver, Ricardo Cruz-Pena, 42, of Corona, Queens, isn't expected to face charges, Lavista said. He was not ticketed.

Lavista said it's unclear why Toombs, of Deer Park, crossed into the opposite lanes of Crooked Hill.

The crash scene is near the campus of Suffolk County Community College.
