Teen in West Islip bicycle crash dies
A 15-year-old West Islip bicyclist struck by a sport utility vehicle Sept. 11 has died at the hospital from his injuries, Suffolk County police said Thursday.
Thomas Labetti was riding his bicycle south on Udall Road at 7:38 p.m. when he was struck, police said, and suffered "severe internal injuries." Labetti was taken by West Islip Fire Department Rescue Ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, police said.
Dennis A. Grabhorn Jr., 34, of Peter Paul Drive, West Islip, was the driver of the 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe that struck Labetti, police said. Grabhorn was not injured, police said, and there were no charges filed against him.
Third Squad detectives were investigating the cause of the accident but no additional information was released Thursday.
