A teenage landscaper who was working on the grounds of a Cutchogue home Wednesday afternoon was discovered by his father floating and unresponsive in the backyard swimming pool, Southold Town police said.

Walter Jose Gomez, 18, of Cutchogue, was pulled from the pool and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed about 3:30 p.m., police said, but he was pronounced dead a short time later at Eastern Long Island Hospital in Greenport.

Gomez and his father, Arnaldo Gomez, 46, of Cutchogue, were working on the grounds of the home at 1120 Little Neck Rd., police said. The elder Gomez had not seen his son for a while, and went looking for him, police said. That's when he discovered the teenager in the water.

Additional details concerning the case, including the cause of death, were not immediately available, and the death is still under investigation by Southold police.
