A 17-year-old Wyandanch man was shot in the calf early Thursday morning, and police are searching for the shooter.

Suffolk County police said that officers responding to a 911 call reporting shots fired in the area of Jamaica Avenue and South 20th Street in Wyandanch found Steven Alvarenca, of Wyandanch, wounded in the left calf.

He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where police said he was treated for the gunshot wound and a fractured tibia. The incident occurred about 12:50 a.m., police said.

They are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
