The origins of Oheka Castle

KEY FACTS
THE COST. Almost a century ago, financier and philanthropist Otto
Hermann Kahn built Oheka Castle in the middle of a 443-acre plot on the highest point on Long Island in Cold Spring Harbor, for an estimated cost of $11 million ($110 million in today's currency).
THE SIZE. It was the second-largest private residence ever built in America.
THE BUILDERS. The castle was designed by architects Delano and Aldrich in 1915. Construction was completed in 1921. Otto Kahn died of a heart attack in 1934.
