A robber displayed a gun Monday and threatened violence if a teller did not hand over money, police said. So the teller at the Chase bank branch in Farmingville gave the man cash and he fled on foot.

Police are searching for him.

Suffolk County police said the armed robbery took place at the Chase branch on North Ocean Avenue Monday at 3:47 p.m. They said the man, who is about 6-foot-2 with a medium build, was wearing a black winter coat, a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black ski mask, yellow-tinted ski goggles and light brown leather gloves. He handed the teller a demand note and threatened violence if he didn't get the cash, police said.

Police said the man then made "several motions to his waist," displaying a gun.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential, police said.
