Three Village school district
VOTING
6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Arrowhead, Minnesauke, Nassakeag, Setauket and W.S. Mount elementary schools.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $184,526,960 budget for 2013-14, a 3.97 percent increase over the current $177,481,579 budget. The local tax levy would rise 4.05 percent, from $132,518,562 to $137,879,768.
This increase is equal to the state's tax-cap limit of 4.05 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget.
School taxes on the average single-family home would rise 4.05 percent, from $9,777 to $10,173. If the budget is rejected, the contingency budget calls for spending $179,165,754.
The proposed budget includes a 2.4 percent contractual raise and a 3.6 percent step increase for teachers. The teaching staff would be reduced by the equivalent of 58.3 full-time positions, and eight other staff positions are to be trimmed. The district plans to increase class sizes and cut electives.
