A 2-year-old boy, "found unresponsive" in a backyard pool in Centereach Tuesday evening, was in serious condition, Suffolk police said.

A 911 caller had alerted the police to the incident, at a Barbara Drive home, at about 6:25 p.m., the police said. The boy was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital.

How the toddler, a relative of the home's residents, ended up in the pool is being investigated by Suffolk detectives.

Anyone with information should call the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
