A Deer Park man has been charged with robbing one bank and trying to rob another this month, Suffolk County police said Thursday.

Police said Tony Diaz, 24, robbed a Capital One Bank in Lindenhurst on Sept. 9 and tried to rob a TD Bank in Deer Park last Saturday. Pattern Crime Unit detectives used video surveillance to identify Diaz in the Lindenhurst robbery, and after an investigation, determined that he was responsible for the attempted robbery in Deer Park, police said.

Detectives placed Diaz under surveillance and he was arrested Thursday without incident, police said.

Diaz was charged with third-degree robbery and third-degree attempted robbery. He was being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
