Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has handed town supervisors plastic cards admitting them to his office without going through security. Bellone told supervisors March 18 he wanted them to have easier access to him. "There may be one or two supervisors we want to keep an eye on," said Jon Schneider, a Bellone deputy. "All the others we trust."

A week earlier, Bellone's staff began curbing access for everyone else. A memo from Paul Margiotta, acting labor relations director, said anyone wanting to enter the Dennison building "will need to be on a list of approved visitors" and show a government-issued photo ID.-- Rick Brand
