Police confirm identity of slain woman

A Lake Grove woman whose death in her home on Thursday is being investigated as a crime was officially identified as 42-year-old Tricia Odierna, Suffolk police said on Saturday.

Suffolk homicide detectives have said her body was discovered about 2 p.m. in the home at 8 Win Place by someone who lives there. Neighbors had identified the victim as Odierna.

Property records show the house was owned by Odierna and Paul Leitgeb.

Before he retired, Leitgeb worked as an NYPD transit division officer from 1990 to 2011, according to an NYPD source.

The police have said that Fourth Precinct patrol officers responded to a 911 call from the home with the intention of making a forced entry based on information provided by the caller. A resident came out of the house and police discovered the body inside.

The home is occupied by two adults and five children, police said.

On Thursday, Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer, commanding officer of the homicide squad, was asked if detectives had spoken with the victim's husband. "We haven't spoken with him. We would certainly like to speak with him, but we're not going to narrow our focus right now," he said.
