A tractor trailer overturned on eastbound Jericho Turnpike in Commack, closing the road for several hours early Saturday, Aug. 26, 2017, according to the state Department of Transportation. Credit: Stringer News Service

All eastbound lanes of Jericho Turnpike at Townline Road in Commack have reopened after being closed to traffic for nearly six hours Saturday morning because of an overturned truck, Suffolk County police said.

The driver was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Assistant Police Commissioner Justin Meyers said.

Details about what caused the accident and the identity of the driver were not immediately available, but Meyers said the Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Section responded to inspect the truck.

A police spokeswoman said the call about the accident at Jericho Turnpike and Commack Road was received at 2:53 a.m., The road reopened about 9 a.m., police said.

The spokeswoman said gasoline had to be cleaned up after the accident.

A photograph of the scene also showed concrete spilled onto the roadway.
