Two men were charged Monday in the burglaries of three restaurants and two banks since March, Suffolk police said.

Salvatore Maiolo, 64, of Long Beach and Frank DeJohn, 44, of Yonkers, were arrested around 5:40 a.m., after police observed them attempting to break into an ATM located within an Applebee's at 2550 Sunrise Hwy., East Islip, police said.

Pattern Crime Unit Detectives initiated surveillance of Maiolo, after determining that he was connected to previous burglaries where cash was stolen from ATMs, police said in a news release.

The previous burglary locations included: Citibank, 2261 Broadhollow Rd., East Farmingdale; McDonald's, 174 Portion Rd., Lake Ronkonkoma; Applebee's, 300 Motor Pkwy., Brentwood; Chase Bank, 499-84 Sunrise Hwy., North Patchogue; and the Applebee's in East Islip.

Maiolo was charged with four counts of burglary, one count of attempted grand larceny in the third degree, one count of possession of burglar's tools, one count of unlawful possession of radio devices and resisting arrest.

DeJohn was charged with one count of burglary, one count of possession of burglar's tools, and one count of unlawful possession of radio devices.

Both Maiolo and DeJohn will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Tuesday.
