A former boyfriend confronted his ex and her new beau as they left a Port Jefferson Station restaurant with friends late Sunday, shooting the man to death before taking his own life, police said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shootings near Route 112 and Jayne Boulevard after receiving a call of shots fired shortly after 11:20 p.m., a department spokeswoman said Monday.

Frank Panebianco and his girlfriend, Jessica Kasten, both 28, were out with friends at the L.I. Pour House Bar & Grill, 650 Route 112, police said.

The friends were confronted in the parking lot by Kasten's former boyfriend, Michael Skiadas, police said.

An argument followed, and Skiadas, 37, took a shotgun from his Jeep, which was parked nearby. A friend, Jack Schneider, tried to calm Skiadas, and Skiadas knocked him in the head with the shotgun, police said.

As Kasten and Panebianco tried to drive away, Skiadas ran toward their car and fired two shots, striking Panebianco in the torso. Skiadas then returned to his vehicle and shot himself, police said.

Skiadas, of Port Jefferson Station, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Panebianco and Schneider, 32, both of Mount Sinai, were taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where Panebianco was pronounced dead.

Schneider was treated for his injuries. Kasten, of Lloyd Harbor, was not injured.

A woman who answered the door to Schneider's home did not want to comment on the matter but said Schneider "is fine."

Attempts to reach Kasten were unsuccessful Monday. A man standing at the driveway of Panebianco's home said the family had no comment.
