State Police troopers said a driver who was stopped because his car's taillights weren't working properly was then charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.
Police said troopers saw the 1995 Honda driven by Kelly B. McCoy, 18, of Ronkonkoma, traveling west on the Southern State Parkway near the Sagtikos Parkway at 11 p.m. Wednesday and stopped it.
The investigation found McCoy was impaired by drugs, police said. He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and several other traffic violations, police said. McCoy's passenger, Philip R. Sheridan, 18, of Lake Grove, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, police said.
The two face arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip, police said. Arraignment details were not immediately available.
