Two Suffolk County men raced each other on North Ocean Avenue in Holtsville -- a race witnessed by an officer from the Aggressive Driving Task Force, Suffolk County police said.

Gary Conrad, 32, of Medford, and Nicholas Minieri, 20, of Holtsville, were each issued summonses for speeding, engaging in an unlawful speed contest and reckless driving after the race at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday.

Suffolk County police impounded Conrad's gray 2006 Chevrolet Corvette and Minieri's gray 2001 Volkswagen Golf.

Police said Aggressive Driving Task Force officer Glen Ritchie, on regular patrol, spotted the Corvette driven by Conrad exit a Wave gas station near Long Island Avenue and come nearly to a stop on the street.

Moments late, the Golf driven by Minieri also exited the gas station -- and pulled up alongside the Corvette, police said.

Police said the two drivers then sped off at up to 90 mph in a 45-mph zone -- slowing only when they reached slow-moving traffic on North Ocean Avenue.

Police said both drivers pulled over for Ritchie.
