Two men wounded in W. Babylon shooting

Two men were injured Friday afternoon when a silver sedan chased a Honda Accord west on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon, as gunshots were fired, police said.

Two of the three men in the Honda were wounded by the gunfire, police said, but they are expected to survive.

While one man drove the four-door silver sedan, his front-seat passenger fired a handgun at the Honda near Route 109 about 12:25 p.m., police said. The Honda wove in and out of traffic in an attempt to avoid the gunfire, police said.

Cecil Benjamin, 29, of Westbury, the Honda's driver, was struck in the left leg, police said. Dominic Robinson, 20, of Far Rockaway, Queens, was shot in the left ankle, left knee and back. Aaron Pickens, 24, of North Amityville, was not wounded by the gunfire, but was treated at the hospital for head pain, police said.

Det. Sgt. Bruce Markgraf said, "We have reason to believe this was not a road rage thing," but declined to elaborate on a possible motive for the shootings.

At times, the vehicles were side by side, and "at different points on both sides veering in and out of traffic," he said.

After numerous shots were fired, the men in the sedan drove off, police said. The victims drove themselves to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for treatment, police said. Benjamin and Robinson were listed in stable condition.
