Two pedestrian accidents on Route 112 in Port Jeff Station
Two pedestrians were seriously injured in a 12-hour span along a quarter-mile stretch of Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station Wednesday, police said.
Suffolk County police said a man was struck by a car on Route 112 at 6:30 a.m. just south of the Long Island Rail Road crossing.
The man was seriously injured. His identity has not been released. The accident closed the road to traffic for more than an hour.
The second crash was at 6:48 p.m. near the intersection of Route 112 and Cherub Lane. Police said Norman Coles, 41, who is homeless, was struck by a southbound 1999 Dodge Suburban driven by Roberta Schlegel, 78, of Middle Island.
Schlegel was not injured. But Coles was taken by Terryville Ambulance to Stony Brook University Medical Center suffering from head trauma.
Neither driver has been charged in either accident.
