One resident and one firefighter were taken to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with minor injuries suffered in an early morning fire in West Islip on Monday, fire officials said.

Suffolk County police said the fire, at a home on Howells Road at Manor Lane, was reported just before 1 a.m.

Fire officials said volunteers from West Islip, Islip, Bay Shore, Brentwood and North Babylon responded. Police said arson investigators are attempting to determine the cause of the blaze.
