Two school buses collide, leave three with minor injuries

Two school buses collided in Copiague Tuesday afternoon, and three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Suffolk police said.

Police said they responded to a crash in front of 455 Molloy St. at 3:15 p.m. One bus was heading south on Molloy Street when it collided with another bus that was heading west. The smaller bus, which had been heading west, overturned, police said. One child -- a girl -- was aboard the smaller bus, and there were no children in the larger bus, officials said.

Both drivers and the girl were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip with nonlife threatening injuries, police said, and all three were later released. No charges have been filed in the collision.

Officials with Educational Bus Transportation, the Copiague company that owns both of the buses, said they are investigating the cause of the crash but have ruled out drugs or alcohol as a factor.

"This was an upsetting incident for everyone involved and our well wishes are with the young student and her family," executive vice president Timothy Flood said in a statement.
