One person was in critical condition after a two-vehicle crash that closed the north service road of the Long Island Expressway in Commack for hours Wednesday, officials said.

Richard Shaw, 75, of Skyline Drive in Coram was driving a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe westbound on the LIE north service road when he struck a 2014 Mercury MKS traveling northbound on Commack Road in Commack at about 11:30 a.m., police said.

Shaw was taken by Suffolk County police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. No charges have been filed. The investigation is continuing, police said.

The Mercury driver, C.V. Schlesinger, 49 of East Moriches, suffered minor injuries, police said.

The westbound service road reopened just before 4 p.m., police said.
