Cops: Vanessa Jones cuts another Riverhead woman in fight over man

A Riverhead woman sliced another woman with a blade in a fight over a man early Saturday, Riverhead Town police said.
Vanessa Jones, 27, was arrested on assault charges after she cut a 26-year-old Riverhead woman "about the body numerous times" in a parking lot near Riverhead's Long Island Rail Road station about 2:24 a.m., police said.
Police believe Jones used a straight-edged blade, but investigators were not able to find a weapon, Riverhead Det. Mark Stromski said.
Jones and the victim were in a dispute over a "mutual male partner," police said.
Riverhead police said they received a 911 call from the victim after she was wounded in the fight and traveled in a private vehicle to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. She identified Jones as the attacker, police said.
Jones later surrendered to Riverhead detectives, police said. The victim was treated and released from the hospital Saturday.
