Veterans Memorial Highway in Ronkonkoma reopened Wednesday after closing for about five hours due to an overturned oil tanker, Suffolk police said.

The tanker driver suffered minor injuries, police said.

The tanker was heading west on Veterans Highway near Connetquot Avenue when it overturned at 7:08 a.m., police said. The driver who was only identified as a man was taken to a hospital to be treated.

The county police motor safety section responded to inspect the tanker along with the state Department of Environmental Conservation and Islip Town Fire Marshal and Hazmat.
