A man struck and fatally injured by a motorist on Sunrise Highway last Sunday morning was identified as a 32-year-old Islip man, the Suffolk County sheriff's office said Friday.

Matthew Hyams had been driving east on the service road about 4:17 a.m. when his vehicle got a flat tire, officials said. He pulled over east of Heckscher Parkway in East Islip and got out of his car, officials said.

He was struck by a 2009 Hyundai sedan driven by a 47-year-old man, officials said.

The Suffolk County Police Department, which looks into traffic fatalities, said Friday that the investigation was continuing.
