Wainscott house fire victim identified

A man who died in a Wainscott house fire last week has been identified as William Bauer, 78, Suffolk County police said Monday.

Bauer lived in the Cozy Cabin Complex at 395 Montauk Highway, where the fire was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Friday, police said.

Bridgehampton firefighters put the fire but discovered the victim, later determined to be Bauer, in the residence.

Police said an investigation into the cause of the fire was continuing.
