Wake set for Suffolk cop killed in off-duty crash

Funeral arrangements have been set for the Suffolk County police officer killed Friday when his sport utility vehicle crashed into a garbage truck.

A wake for Patrick Curley, 40, of Huntington, is scheduled for Monday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Kramer Megiel Funeral Home in Glen Cove. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick Church in Glen Cove.

Authorities released no new details Saturday about the investigation. Curley was off-duty and driving west on Jericho Turnpike near Siracusa Boulevard in Commack about 3:30 a.m. on Friday when his black Volvo XC90 slammed into the truck as it backed out of a business, police said.

Curley, a 17-year police veteran and the married father of a 2-year-old daughter, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Insp. Edward Brady, the Second Precinct commander, said Curley patrolled the Melville area for years and was recently reassigned to Commack and Dix Hills.

A Suffolk police officer parked outside Curley's home yesterday said the family had no comment.

The driver of the Winters Bros. garbage truck, James Jarosch, 59, of Ronkonkoma, was not injured in the crash, police said.

Police issued Jarosch summonses for unsafe backing and an equipment violation.
