The Macy's department store at the Walt Whitman Mall in Huntington Station was evacuated briefly Sunday after smoke filled the basement. There were no injuries.

At roughly 1:45 p.m., the Huntington Manor Fire Department responded and located the source of the smoke in an elevator control room. Capt. Mike Bruno said the source of the smoke appeared to be an electric pump in the room. Employees and shoppers were evacuated.

Bruno said firefighters cut the electric power to the elevator and advised the department store to get in touch with its elevator repair service. After about a half-hour, Bruno said, the store was reopened.
