A tractor trailer, whose driver told police he swerved to avoid an accident, dumped duck parts all over the eastbound Sunrise Highway service road on Friday, closing the road in Holbrook, police said.

The incident occurred near Nicolls Road at 9:07 a.m., Suffolk County police said.

Police said the road was closed until about 1:30 p.m.

The incident was reported in a 911 call, the driver saying he'd "swerved to avoid a vehicle and that the cargo door opened -- and the cargo fell out," a police spokeswoman said.

The cargo was waste -- duck parts -- from a duck processing plant, police said.

Police said inspectors from the Motor Carrier Safety Section were on scene to inspect the truck for violations.
