While he weighs a run for Huntington Town supervisor, James Gaughran's reappointment to a new five-year term as Suffolk Water Authority chairman goes Monday before the county legislature's environment and energy committee.

Gaughran said he will proceed with the reappointment process for the $32,500-a-year chairman's post because he has not yet decided whether to seek the Democratic nomination for supervisor. He has said he is scheduled to screen with the town party committee for the supervisor's job on Wednesday.

Should he decide to run, Gaughran said, he would step down as chairman to avoid any potential conflict. Meanwhile, the incumbent supervisor, Democrat Frank Petrone, has indicated he will seek re-election in November.
