Way to Go: Alan Rozet, Rocky Point

Alan Rozet, a senior at Rocky Point High School, is one of three high school students nationwide to win a $100,000 college scholarship from Proton OnSite to pursue a four-year degree in science or technology.

The scholarship recognizes seniors who demonstrate "outstanding achievement, excellence and promise," according to officials at Proton OnSite, a global company that focuses on hydrogen energy and innovative gas solutions.

Rozet said he plans to attend Harvard University this fall.

"As a country, we need to focus more on science and technology," said Tom Sullivan, chairman of Proton OnSite. "These remarkable students possess the ability, the drive and potential to be our next science and technology leaders."

Rozet, his school's salutatorian and a member of the varsity tennis team, has a weighted grade-point average of 104.03 and tutors students each week in chemistry and mathematics.

He has studied business and computer graphics at Ithaca College's Summer College for High School Students and at the University of Pennsylvania.

Alan is "an exceptional student" and "extremely deserving of this," said guidance counselor Mike Conlon.
