Morgan Brown doesn't waste any time.

Diagnosed with Tourette syndrome only a year ago, Brown - a third-grader at Albany Avenue Elementary School in Lindenhurst - coordinated a campaign this past spring to raise more than $6,200 for the Tourette Syndrome Association's Long Island Chapter.

To raise the funds, Brown sold baked goods donated by Entenmann's in Bay Shore during the opening day ceremonies of the Lindenhurst American Little League in April.

She also collected donations from the Queens district attorney's office, where her father Steve works as a detective.

"I just woke up one morning and started to have these movements I couldn't control," Brown said of first experiencing the disorder in August 2009. "At first, I was really scared."

For her efforts, Brown recently received the association's Outstanding Achievement Award and the Pride of Lindenhurst Award from the Lindenhurst School District.

The money she raised will help fund the association's various support groups, youth programs and school advocacy programs and workshops, she said.

Outside of school, Brown plays softball with the Lindenhurst American Little League.
