An air quality health advisory is in effect for Nassau and Suffolk Friday from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m. because of higher-than-normal levels of ozone in the air.

The ozone may affect those who are susceptible to respiratory problems, the National Weather Service said in an advisory.

An air quality health advisory has also been issued for New York City from 1 to 10 p.m.

This weekend may see some messy weather from a storm system now moving across the Midwest, the weather service said.

A cold front could bring a chance of severe thunderstorms, with a 30 percent chance of showers on Saturday, increasing to 50 percent in the afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service in Upton.

The storm will stall for a while over Long Island on Sunday, with increasing chances of rain and a possibility of more thunderstorms.

A toll-free hotline, 800-535-1345, is available to alert residents of air quality problems.
