West Islip school district
VOTING
7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at West Islip High School.
THE BUDGET
The district proposes a $117,750,846 budget for 2015-16, a 2.14 percent increase from the current $115,281,645.
The local tax levy would increase 2.23 percent, from $78,688,445 to $80,446,692.
This increase equals the state's tax-cap limit of 2.23 percent, so a simple majority vote will be required to approve the budget. The dollar amount of the school tax paid on an average single-family home would increase 2.24 percent, from $8,035 to $8,215.
The teachers' contract expires June 30. The proposed budget does not call for a reduction in teachers or staff. The proposed budget includes the hiring of seven additional teachers and six security guards.
