A tractor trailer collided with a car Tuesday morning on the north service road of the Long Island Expressway in Melville, causing injuries to both drivers, officials said.

The accident forced the closing of the westbound service road in the area of Route 110 from 2:05 to 6 a.m. Suffolk County police said.

The two vehicles came to a stop at the bottom of a wooded embankment, and firefighters had to cut through the brush to get to them, according to Steve Silverman, a spokesman for the Melville Fire Department.

The car landed on its roof and firefighters used hydraulic tools to cut the driver free, he said.

The truck driver was taken to Huntington Hospital, and the driver of the car was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, he said.

The injuries were not life-threatening, Silverman said.
