A motorcyclist was thrown off his bike and hit the back of a refrigerator trailer in North Lindenhurst Tuesday after suddenly stopping in the roadway, Suffolk police said.

Roberto Gonzalez, 47, of Amityville, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

He was going west on Sunrise Highway when he stopped his Kawasaki motorcycle near Straight Path about 1:15 p.m., police said.

He was thrown from his bike and hit the back of a trailer that was stopped at the traffic light, police said.

The truck driver, Jose Ayala, 25, was not injured.

The westbound lanes of Sunrise Highway were closed between Wellwood Avenue and New Highway as investigators gather evidence, police said. Police reopened the lanes shortly before 6 p.m.
