Police: 31-year-old man seriously hurt in head-on crash
A 31-year-old man was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries after a head-on crash Wednesday night on Country Road 31 near Gabreski Airport, Southampton Town police said.
In a release, police said the man was trapped in a Honda Pilot after a crash with a 2020 Chevrolet Traverse carrying four people, including a 2-week-old baby and a 9-year-old child, shortly after 8 p.m.
The Traverse flipped, but everyone was able to leave the vehicle, police said. The driver, a 38-year-old woman, and the 9-year-old, were taken to an area hospital with injuries. A 41-year-old man and the infant were unharmed.
Westhampton Beach firefighters extricated the Pilot driver from his vehicle and Suffolk County Aviation took him to the hospital, police said. Westhampton Beach and Flanders Volunteer Ambulances took the other victims.
Police closed County Road 31 between Stewart Avenue and Rogers Avenue Wednesday night to investigate the crash, but 511NY, the state traffic website, showed it open Thursday morning.
