Firefighters from more than a dozen departments battled a fire into Monday night at a Winters Bros. recycling and waste transfer station in West Babylon.

About 10 p.m. Monday, Suffolk County Fire Department officials said firefighters remained at the scene but had no updates on whether the blaze had been extinguished.

Companies responding to the fire at 19 Nancy St., reported at 11:54 a.m., included the East Farmingdale Fire Department and 12 mutual-aid agencies. No injuries were immediately reported.

Will Flower, a spokesman for Winters Bros., said the fire spread in a building used to transfer recyclables, including cardboard, paper and municipal solid waste.

“The fire spread quickly,” Flower said. “All of our operations there were suspended and diverted to other facilities. All our employees are accounted for.”
