Woman, 25, critically injured in Yaphank crash
A 25-year-old Centereach woman was critically injured Thursday afternoon in a two-car collision on Horseblock Road in Yaphank, police said.
Jeanette Corrales, of View Court, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center following the crash, Suffolk County police said. She was admitted in critical condition.
Her condition was not immediately available Friday.
Police said the accident occurred near Grucci Lane at about 3:40 p.m. It was then, police said, that Eddie Novack, 83, of Boynton Beach, Fla., driving eastbound in a 2002 Ford Explorer struck the 2001 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Corrales as she exited the Brookhaven Town Animal Shelter.
Novack and his passenger, who was not identified, were treated for minor injuries at Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, police said.
Police said they issued Corrales a summons — for driving with a suspended license and for an unregistered vehicle.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing.
