A 93-year-old woman died Thursday night in a fire that started in her bedroom, authorities said early this morning.

Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer of the Suffolk County Homicide Squad said police received the call from a neighbor about 9:25 p.m. that a Grover Lane house was on fire.

The East Northport Fire Department was the first on the scene and responded "within minutes," Beyrer said.

Alice Woods, the sole occupant of the house, was found in a second-floor bedroom, where the fire was believed to have originated.

She was pulled out of the house, but died at the scene, he said.

Beyrer said the fire is not believed to be suspicious, but that the cause is under investigation by Suffolk County police homicide and arson squads.

Woods' cause of death is also under investigation, Beyrer said.
