Woman, 96, killed in Mattituck car crash
A 96-year-old Mattituck woman was killed Friday when the car she was driving hit a dump truck, Southold police said.
Irma J. Utter was driving east on County Road 48 and attempting to turn left onto Wickham Avenue in Mattituck when her car "made contact" with a Mack dump truck about 12:15 p.m. Utter was pronounced dead at an area hospital, police said.
Truck driver Richard W. Corazzini Sr., 73, of Cutchogue, was treated for minor injuries and released.
The Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Safety Unit responded and Corazzini was issued summonses for equipment violations, police said. Utter's Car was impounded for a safety inspection.
No criminal charges have been filed. The investigation is ongoing.
