A woman died after driving through a red light in Medford and hitting a tree late Thursday afternoon, Suffolk police said.

She was going east on Horseblock Road shortly after 5 p.m. when it appeared that she had a medical emergency, police said. The driver went through a red light by Route 112 and up a curb before hitting a tree on the corner, police said.

The victim's name was not immediately released. She was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center, where she died, police said.

Her 2005 Toyota Corolla was impounded for a safety check.

No other details were immediately available.
